Welcome to March, SJV Community!

The month of March brings about a very important time in the church year.  The season of Lent, which begins on March 2nd, will continue through Holy Week taking us to Easter!  This is the time to remember how Jesus Christ suffered and died for all humanity in order that we might be saved!  It’s a time

to pray more and build our relationship with God as we prepare ourselves to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection on Easter.  How do we grow closer to God during Lent?  The Church has several guidines that we follow in order to achieve this (please see the above graphic).  It is also great to choose some personal forms of spirtual growth.  We can sacrifice the things we love (treats, electronics etc.) and replace them with something more pleasing to God like reading scripture, attending mass or confession, and/or going to adoration.

The Annunciation

...

On March 25th, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Annunciation. We contemplate Mary’s visitation by the Angel Gabriel who told Mary that she would be the mother of Jesus. Remember that Mary was conceived without sin and was ever faithful to the will of God. With total abandonment and trust in God, Mary responded “May it be done to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). Mary’s answer of YES made the salvation of the world possible.

This is a great day to contemplate God’s will in our lives. Repeat this prayer often: Father, thy will be done. Amen!
