Our Story
St. John Vianney School, an educational ministry of St. John Vianney Parish, was established in 1960. The Dominican Sisters of San Rafael, part of the Order of Preachers, sent the school’s first principal in 1960. The Dominican Sisters served the school from its inception until 1972. The Dominican Sisters of San Rafael are committed to the mission of Dominic: to proclaim God’s Word in our world. St. Dominic was drawn to a ministry and style of life which mirrored that of Jesus and the apostles. For Dominic the ministry of preaching the good news of the gospel went hand in hand with a simple apostolic life.
The particular gift, or charism, of preaching, given to Dominic and his followers throughout the centuries, continues to be the core of the Dominican Sisters’ lives and ministry. A preacher is someone entrusted with God’s Word for others, someone who is compelled to speak the words of truth, love, mercy and justice which they have received in Jesus Christ. St. John Vianney School continues to benefit from the past ministry of the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael and deeply appreciates each sisters’ service.
