Students participate in programs of study in music, art, library, computer technology, and Spanish as an enrichment of the academic curriculum. St. John Vianney School is proud to offer STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) inspired learning, which is made possible through the integration of the enrichment curriculum.
At Saint John Vianney, our educational technology program supports our mission by providing students with the tools to create, explore, and collaborate. Technology lessons are weaved in the school’s overall strategic plan to empower our students to be tech-saavy, discerning, and compassionate young leaders.
Saint John Vianney is proud of its art program. Throughout the year, students TK-8th grade study the works of classical and contemporary artists from around the world. Each grade concentrates on a particular artist while examining their individual style and technique. Students then take their knowledge and create their own masterpieces using various materials.
Spanish introduces students TK-8th grade to the basic vocabulary, conversational idioms, grammatical structures, and phonetic characteristics of the language. Students are encourgaged to communicate in an authentic environment by incorporating reading, writing, and speaking skills.
St. John Vianney School’s library encourages curiosity, innovation and problem-solving. The school library is a central point for all kinds of reading, activities, access to information, knowledge building, deep thinking and lively discussion. Research shows the significant difference well-resourced libraries can make to student learning outcomes.
Another wonderful program at St. John Vianney School is the music program. Our music teacher brings the gift of music to our students. Each class in Grades TK-8 has weekly instruction in music, during which they learn to read music, the basics of rhythm, and the joy of music. Students learn the music to sing during Liturgy as well as for upcoming seasonal celebrations.
Students in grade 2-8 are given the opportunity to participate in the school choir. This program enables students to participate in school and parish liturgies.
Field trips are designed to supplement and enrich the classroom curriculum. Each year, classes at St. John Vianney School attend a number of educational field trips related to their studies in Social Studies, the Arts, and Science. Along with teachers and instructional aides, parent volunteers provide supervision on field trips.
Generally, field trips occur during the school day and last from a few hours to most of the school day. Classes usually travel with parent drivers to their destinations. Each class has a budget to offset the cost of field trip expenses.
